I do have two deceptively simple and blatant Qs that needs to be asked:

Are we striving to fully integrate these DEs with the FreeBSD resources/components, or for now reporting bugs in the DEs with linkers to the FreeBSD resources/components (and I know there are tons of bugs, so these are policy/philosophical Qs)?

If yes, this will mean branching the development of PC-BSD. I do not mind that occurring, however it places a risk to question what really is PCBSD. Is it the development of the (ideal*) Desktop OS to FreeBSD for the new user? Or is it the OS in FreeBSD for you? (Or are we using this DE selection to explore what is the features necessary to make the (ideal*) Desktop OS, to perhaps make the perfect DE for FreeBSD)

I also now these Qs are just touching the tip of the water the iceberg is in.

P.S.
I presume that what we are striving with this is DE implementation is to make the FreeBSD OS packaged --with a ready-to-be-built-by-the-press-of-few-buttons-- for you.

Probably in a few weeks as we're still fixing some bugs in 9.0 which are preventing the installer from working completely.

However, feel free to start testing the current GNOME PBI on 8.1. Since the PBI is based on the FreeBSD port, any bugs and/or missing functionality found now will give us an idea of what needs to be fixed in the PBI and/or port.
