I’m also hoping that the latest man pages I’ve added make it in in time for 8.2 release.

webcamd is important part of modern desktop so using the latest version might help pc-bsd broaden its user base. also updated were related ports v4l_compat and hal.

besides, i’ve noticed kde 4.5.5 is in ports. i don’t know how much effort it would take to include it but since new pc-bsd won’t come out within half a year, it seems reasonable to include the latest software available now.

I couldn’t more emphatically agree. Especially with KDE 4.6 at RC2. Believe it or not, this same thing happened last time.

When I first investigated PCBSD I skipped them and went with Kubuntu with a few days old KDE 4.5 something. I wasn’t familiar with either distro. Still hearing that KDE 4.5 was the promised land for KDE, I didn’t see the point in choosing a distro that could only teach me old, outdated and recently retired behaviors. To the untrained eye seeing that a distro and a window manager were updated within days of each other and the distro still ended up out of date can leave the wrong impression when its not entirely accurate. Even now 4.5.4 is only a little over a month old. It’s pretty normal to try to get a sense of how frequently you can expect updates.

Definitely. It will be in both RC-3 and Release.
