traebarlow has started a blog on his experiences with PC-BSD. One of his recent entries may be of interest to other PC-BSD users as it explains how he got the latest OSS to work on his PC-BSD system.
skimming through his blog reminded me of pcbsd vs ports question — does pcbsd use portsnap finally ? since in past it either did not or ports collection was installed differently making portsnap refetch it on initial ports tree update. this should be addressed if it’s still the case.
ok.
but how is port collection installed initially (during installation) ?
because if it’s done as sysinstall used to do it then portsnap will still fetch the whole tree on its first run (thus rendering initial ports tree installation meaningless).
From the files on the DVD. If you prefer portsnap to csup, you should wait til after the install to either run portsnap manually or to install the ports from System Manager.

Yes, System Manager uses portsnap to fetch the ports tree.
