It seems I'm not the only one that has issues with the Broadcom chipset, same model (bcm4312) as well. Right now I'm totally despondent when it comes to getting the wireless to work. My install used the bwn(4) driver automatically & detected the device, but scanning for networks turned up nothing, so I switched to the low-power version, & it did detect the networks... listing them all at 0% (and still not connecting). Switching to the bwi driver didn't work at all, which wasn't a surprise since its man page doesn't list bcm4312 as supported. I installed 9.0, then 9.1 (both 64b) thrice from DVD (and yes, I checked the md5) to no avail.

So... what do I do now, short of ripping out & replacing the adapter? I'm sorry, I doubt this is the place to ask, but I'm not used to asking for help for any problem whatsoever since it usually isn't this bad. Everything about this OS (short of the former issue) is wonderful; I'll go so far as to donate the $5 in lunch money I have on me... bye bye cheap school lunch :(

Take a look at bwn(4). There are 2 sysctl values that may fix the problem. It is also possible that your chipset needs the bwi driver instead, as described in that man page.

I managed to install the 32-bit PC-BSD 9.1 RC1, but does not work wireless with module bwn_v4_ucode (not see and can not find any wireless network). I put the file rc.conf bwn_v4_lp_ucode, can see wireless networks but I say power is zero% connects to the network but I do these errors but browser does not open:

So, I can not install something external, my drive CD/DVD-RW is broken... pfff. I think it's something bad or incomplete in the kernel, maybe, since version 8.2 works great, no problems.
So the only alternative is a wait for the new release on PC-BSD, can it solve the problem, ... I hope!

I really appreciate your help dru, thank you very much. I'm back with a review if it will solve the problem.

Yes, that is strange. Is it possible to use a DVD on this system (e.g. using an external reader)?

Another possibility is to see if RC2 fixes the issue, it is due out some time this upcoming week.

Yes, I checked the checksum of the file img.bz2, is ok. Yes command indicate that the same amount of data was written as the size of the .img file. I tried with ACPI Turned off, but not work. The BIOS of the machine is up to date. I have the latest version. I tried to:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=128M
and then:
dd if=PCBSD8.2-x64-USB.img of=/dev/sdb bs=10240 conv=sync
I tried with other values even..., but had no effect.
I tried installing the PCBSD9.0 and PCBSD9.1-RC1-x64 and x86,... x64 not working at all, but x86 boot, but I have these errors in my previous comment. I managed to install x86 the boot sequence, but the errors occur and I very much to get into the system. I can not understand why running version 8.2 on PC-BSD and version 9 on PC-BSD does not work?

My usb is: Kingston DT Mini Slim 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[ 8082.035354] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] 15695872 512-byte logical blocks: (8.03 GB/7.48 GiB)

I really appreciate your help, thanks again.

That chipset uses the bwn driver which is installed by default. If it is not showing in ifconfig, try loading it as the superuser with this command:

kldload bwn_v4_ucode

What is the size of the stick? Did the dd command indicate that the same amount of data was written as the size of the .img file? Did you check the checksum on the .img.bz2 file?

1.) How do I enable wireless support for a Broadcom BCM 4312 wifi card in PC-BSD 9.1? I have an Acer Extensa 5220 Laptop.

2.) I installed PC-BSD 8.2 and works very well, no problems, but I used to install PC-BSD 9.0 method dd(1) on the stick and boot, but stops somewhere at one point and freezes there. Everything goes well up here:

usbus0: 12Mbps Full Speed USB v1.0
usbus1: 12Mbps Full Speed USB v1.0
usbus2: 12Mbps Full Speed USB v1.0
usbus3: 480Mbps High Speed USB v2.0

Here is my # lspci

04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)

Thanks in advance. :)
