HTTP or Torrent.

Updating
———————————————

Users running on 10.1-RELEASE can now update to 10.1.1 via the normal
package updating mechanisms.

If the update cannot complete, such as when excessive pkg conflicts
exist, it is possible to grab the new PC-BSD updater from git and use
it. To do so, use the following instructions.

(As root)

# pkg update -f
# pkg upgrade -f ports-mgmt/pkg
# pkg update -f
# pkg install -f grub2-pcbsd

# git clone –depth=1 -b releng/10.1.1 https://github.com/pcbsd/pcbsd.git
# cd pcbsd/src-sh/libsh
# make install
# cd ../pcbsd-utils/pc-updatemanager
# make install
# pc-updatemanager pkgupdate

remus » Please report exactly what you did to get this error. I’m not sure if you are booting from a disc or trying to boot PC-BSD after install. Please give us details of your setup and we’ll be glad to look at resolving this for you :). (Also please note if you did any customization of system settings). bugs.pcbsd.org

Dude, sweet new vt console. This the first time I’ve seen it. But I have an NVidia card I thought it should only work with Intel and AMD where KMS is enabled?

Also is there a way that I can configure the automatic updating to start more then 20 minutes after boot?

Don’t worry, I think I’ve found it in the wiki.

  • February 3, 2015 at 1:49 pm |

Updated. Now I can’t use the computer as all 🙁 (sending this with my laptop with Windows XP nLite (it won’t get PC-BSD since it’s not powerfull ebough)

So… After a successful update I rebooted as told and the PC-BSD Bootloader says “no such file or directory” on various places and stops at “PS: cannot mmap corefile” and that’s it.

Trying to run a version beforeUpdate is not helping and it doesn’t matter what I do since the error is pre PC-BSD Bootloader.
It’s in the GRUB loader. It says “Welcome to GRUB” then “Error: file… (something)” flashes by so quick that I have no chanse to see what it says.

Well, it looks to me like a system reinstallation from DVD. Luckily I backed up everything to the second drive prior to the update. Or is the some way around this?

there is no one locale in PCDM, which is English, I want set it to zh_CN.
    I upgrade from 10.1 to 10.1.1

Why did you remove GRUB-slice option?

  • Brian

That “Update” section above will unlikely work, because . . .
    1) If someone tries to cut and paste those commands they’ll get the character used (WordPress font issue?) ‘–’, instead of a dash ‘-‘, for command options.
    2) git follows POSIX and uses double dashes for long options. e.g. “–depth”
    3) Cutting and pasting that url in a terminal doesn’t work right, when the command is run (more WordPress font issues?)
    e.g. “git clone –depth=1 –b releng/10.1.1 https://github.com/pcbsd/pcbsd.git

    4) Even after the text is corrected, I still get . . .
    Starting syscache…
    ERROR: Failed downloading ports-mgmt/pkg with: /usr/sbin/pkg fetch -d -y ports-mgmt/pkg

The update instructions work, thanks for them. A couple of notes. After running pkg upgrade -f ports-mgmt/pkg, the resulting message informed me to run pkg2ng. While running pkg2ng, there were six messages about missing files; but I proceeded undaunted. After running pkg install -f grub2-pcbsd, the resulting message suggested I run grub-mkconfig and I did that. Lastly, after running pc-updatemanager pkgupdate, the update failed after about a half-hour with the error message “failed fetching misc/pcbsd-base-142029652.txz” but I resolved this by rebooting the machine and then running the update from the Control Panel. All seems to be fine with the minor exception that items on the fluxbox toolbar cannot be read in some fluxbox styles. Thanks for the great job!

    Hello,
The update went well from AppCafe but all locales have disappeared from the login screen, except for english. There is no other option. All desktops are now in english, and I have translated Lumina into catalan. The keyboard layout is ok, but it doesn’t always remember last configuration, but the options are there.
    Any ideas?

After Installing PC-BSD v10.1, I’ve attempted to upgrade to v10.1.1, but something does not appear to work properly, no error messages received though. After performing the upgrades via Update Manager and AppCafe (set to Production Repository) I’ve rebooted and the only change noticed is that now About App is saying version of PCBSD is 10.1 release P16 (from P8). The applications LibreOffice and Firefox are still at the same level as when installed during OS install. Pages 128 thru 144 of the PCBSD Handbook only indicate to run these two in order to upgrade. Is there any other reference that points to how to properly perform the upgrade?

In order to see the PC-BSD (as opposed to the FreeBSD) version, type “about” in the terminal. 10.1 Release p16 is the FreeBSD version. Most likely your system is properly updated.

One more issue just discovered; after the upgrade (Base System and Apps) the App Cafe no longer shows listing of the applications available for install (Instead “No applications in this category match the current browser view options.”). In the AppCafe (next to StartUpdates button) the message “Application updates are available” apears; however, when pressed nothing happens at all as if application is frozen.

Thanks, guys! I’m upgraded already. It didn’t go without a hitch though, but the hitch was minor: syscache-daemon wouldn’t respond to the `stop` command (I finally found out that that’s why `pc-updatemanager pkgupdate` was doing nothing for a while). So, I hauled off to another terminal session, confirmed that `sudo service syscache stop` wasn’t working, and did a `kill` on syscache[-daemon]’s pid. After that, the update script (in the first terminal window) continued merrily on it’s way. Just thought I’d give that a mention. Thanks, again!

I am unable to boot since reload. Getting grub error file ‘default’ not found.

Please help. This is my work station.

Ouch, can’t use my 4GB USB drive anymore to install (this release is 4.1GB). I’ll try installing an earlier release and upgrading from there.
