Hi, Dru, good morning !
I`m thinking about to use and learn about PCBSD.
Hear, in Brazil, I think that no many guys use it.
I have a Samsung Notebook, RF511, I5, 6 Gb ram, 750 Gb HD.
It has 2 video cards, a Intel 3000, onboard, and a NVidia 540 M, for heavy graphics.
I will install PCBSD and will try to configure the video cards. In Linux, we have the `Bumblebee`.
Many thanks for your attention.
How can I subscribe this post ?
A wonderfull week for all !

Try adding a NVidia graphics card to your computer. PC-BSD, Linux and even Solaris Express (Boo) all like NVidia graphics cards. If your computer is older, get the AGP slot type. If newer, PCI-express. 512 video RAM should be fine for most users.

Hi,

I think that PC-BSD is a great package, but I would like to say that the support available for it seems less than optimum.

I am new to BSD/FreeBSD/PC-BSD and I installed PC-BSD and I was impressed how it looked (no fuzzy fonts like on any Linux distro I tried).

However, PC-BSD would not keep the correct resolution for my monitor (1680 x 1050) and Flash player in Firefox stops for a few seconds every 5 seconds or so.
To me this point to a driver issue for the video driver. I have a 865G Intel integrated chip on an Intel P4 mobo.

So I tried to find answers and this has been my experience:

When I tried to register on the forums I was told I was considered a spammer. I tried with 2 very valid email addresses and got the same message twice. So I could not post an issue.

This "you are a spammer" message told me to contact someone. Well I did not see a Contact us link anywhere.

Then I tried to post a question on the faq and it gave me a php error. Twice.

Then I searched the knowledge base and I must say it does not have much in it and nothing about my chip etc.

So this comment is the only way I seem to be able to try and resolve an issue.

This seems like a great package where obvioulsy people have gone to great efforts to make it great, but have not made it easy to get issues resolved. This IMHO will prevent wide spread adoption.

If someone could help me that would be great.
